Description

A rare Longton Hall figure of Milkman, circa 1755, with two pails, one on his head the other by his side, wearing a black tricorn hat, white shirt, yellow and puce spotted neckerchief, puce coat and brown breeches, standing before a tree-stump with a dog at his feet, on a square base, the front moulded with scrolls and flowers enriched in purple (slight chipping to pails, foliage and base, see pictures), 27.5 cm high.

Longton Hall was the earliest porcelain factory operating in Staffordshire, producing soft-paste porcelain figurines and tableware between circa 1749 and 1760.
