This nineteenth-century Hollywood Regency coffee table takes the form of a rectangular glass-topped surface supported by an aged brass frame. The structure uses tubular metal shaped to mimic the segmented nodes of natural bamboo, joined at the corners with visible cast metal brackets. An intersecting X-shaped stretcher spans the lower section to provide structural stability, while a clean inset glass top reveals the framework beneath. The metal displays a warm metallic finish with darker patination accumulated over time. Measuring 43 cm high, 76 cm wide, and 42 cm deep, this piece serves as a central surface for a living room, drawing room, or open-plan seating area. It holds decorative objects, drinks, and books while keeping sightlines open across the floor space due to the transparent glass insert and slender uprights.

Faux bamboo furniture features metal or carved timber fashioned to replicate the natural nodes, joints, and slender profile of bamboo stalks. The style gained widespread prominence during the 19th-century Chinoiserie movement and experienced a major resurgence during the mid-20th-century Hollywood Regency era.

Tables of this style are typically constructed from cast or tubular brass and steel, finished with metallic plating or lacquer. Tops are generally fitted with inset clear or smoked toughened glass to display the underlying metallic framework and cross-stretchers.

Authentic period examples exhibit solid structural weight, finely cast joint detailing at the bamboo nodes, and natural surface oxidisation or patina within the crevices. Modern reproductions often feature lighter tubular alloys, uniform machine spraying, and simplified non-cast joints.

Position the table centrally in front of a neutral upholstered sofa to allow the metallic silhouette to stand out. Complement the transparent glass top with curated art books or small decorative bowls without obscuring the geometric cross-stretcher beneath.

Clean the glass panel using a microfibre cloth and standard glass cleaner, taking care not to spill liquid onto the metal frame. Maintain the brass frame by dusting with a soft dry cloth, avoiding abrasive polishes that could strip the original aged patina or protective lacquer.
