Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian Chinoiserie occasional card table is made from lacquered wood with a black finish and brass hardware. It takes the form of a folding card table with a fold-over rectangular top, a single drawer fitted with a round central knob, turned faux bamboo legs, and a lower stretcher base. The surface displays decorative lacquering, and the piece stands at 72 cm high, 73 cm wide, and 37 cm deep. It works well as an end-of-a-sofa table or occasional piece in a gentleman's library or living room, providing a compact surface for everyday use alongside a folding surface for card games.

FAQs

Chinoiserie lacquered games tables emerged as popular decorative items in Europe during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, reflecting European fascination with East Asian lacquerware and traditional decorative art motifs.

Traditional pieces feature timber frames finished with multi-layered lacquer or japanning, frequently accented with gilt painted decoration, brass hardware, and faux bamboo wood turnings.

Authentic period examples display signs of hand-drawn lacquer work, natural craquelure within the varnish, age-appropriate wear along fold joints, and traditional joinery such as hand-cut dovetails inside drawers.

A compact lacquered table works effectively as a versatile side table beside an armchair, an accent piece in an entryway, or a functional hall table paired with contemporary art.

Maintain lacquerware by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting gently with a soft microfibre cloth, and avoiding abrasive chemicals or excessive moisture.
