This mid-19th century occasional table follows the 18th century Sheraton style, rendered in golden brown satinwood with rosewood and mahogany accents. The segmented oval top displays a radial veneer pattern with a crossbanded border and a floral inlay at the centre, positioned above a plain apron. Slender square tapered legs support the piece, decorated with leaf paterae and inlaid vertical stringing. The entire structure stands 77 cm high, 99 cm wide, and 60 cm deep. Suitable for placement in a bay window, this piece functions well as an occasional surface within an English Country House interior. The timber exhibits natural grain variations across the top and apron, presenting a warm polished finish throughout the surface.

Popularised during the late 18th and 19th centuries, satinwood occasional tables are lightweight, versatile accent pieces characterised by fine-grained golden wood, delicate inlaid decoration, and Neoclassical proportions.

These tables feature West Indian or East Indian satinwood veneers over solid hardwood carcasses, often decorated with floral marquetry, crossbanding, and hand-cut joinery.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year, and keep the table away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer lifting.

Position the piece as an accent table in a bay window, entrance hall, or alongside upholstered seating to create a contrast between rich polished timber and modern fabrics.

Authentic period pieces display natural wood grain variations, precise hand-cut inlay detailing, slight unevenness from historical hand-tooling, and natural patination on the timber surface.
