Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian Sheraton style occasional table comes from the maker Willmington & Cope, whose stamp appears on the piece. Constructed from warm brown mahogany with satinwood highlights, the piece displays a rectangular form featuring a crossbanded border enclosing a gold-tooled green leather top, a single drawer with round brass knobs, and four square tapered legs with stringing and hound's tooth inlay. The timber exhibits surface scuffs and scratches on the leather insert and the polished wooden frame. Measuring 74 cm high, 66 cm wide and 43 cm deep, the table fits neatly at the end of a sofa in a gentleman's library or acts as a writing stand in a study.

FAQs

Originally designed in the eighteenth century for holding drinks and small personal items, occasional tables evolved into versatile functional pieces featuring drawers, leather writing surfaces, and fine cabinetwork.

Authentic period pieces typically feature solid mahogany or walnut frames, hand-cut dovetail drawer joinery, crossbanded veneer borders, and blind-tooled or gilded leather inset surfaces.

Authenticity is indicated by oxidation patterns on timber undersides, genuine hand-cut drawer construction, original brass hardware, and natural patina across the leather insert.

Position the table beside an armchair as an elegant lamp stand, arrange it within a hallway below a mirror, or utilise it as a compact writing surface in a home study.

Dust wood surfaces with a soft microfibre cloth, apply beeswax sparingly along the grain, and clean the leather top with a specialised leather conditioner while avoiding direct heat.
