This Regency sofa table belongs to the Regency period and showcases a warm brown mahogany construction with a polished finish. The rectangular top incorporates two drop-leaf flaps with rounded corners, supported by a frieze fitted with four drawers. The drawers display round brass knobs arranged in pairs. Below the frieze, turned column supports rest upon splayed sabre legs finished with brass castors. Measuring 71 cm high, 149 cm wide and 61 cm deep, this item provides a functional surface for daily use. In a contemporary home, this table works well positioned directly behind a sofa in a living room or sitting area. The drop-leaf design permits flexibility in floor space, while the drawers offer practical storage for small household items. The warm timber tones integrate smoothly into traditional or transitional interior schemes, providing both display space and storage.

Designed in early 19th-century Britain, sofa tables were long, narrow tables originally placed behind a freestanding sofa, featuring hinged drop-leaf ends and shallow frieze drawers for storing writing or embroidery supplies.

These tables were predominantly made using dense, high-grade timbers such as flame mahogany or rosewood, supported by brass drawer handles, brass toe caps, and brass wheel castors.

Authentic pieces exhibit classical proportions, hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, reeded or turned column end-supports, outward-splayed sabre legs, and hand-planed timber linings.

A sofa table functions effectively positioned directly behind a mid-room sofa, aligned against a wide hallway wall as a console, or beneath a window to showcase table lamps and decorative objects.

Maintain the timber finish by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish along the grain, while avoiding direct heat sources and standing water.
