This 18th-century Venetian Rococo console table is constructed from giltwood, marble and stone with a gold and grey colour scheme. The serpentine-shaped specimen marble top displays an inlay of multi-coloured stone pieces in shades of brown, yellow, black and white, bordered by white marble moulding. The giltwood frieze incorporates relief-carved acanthus scrollwork and a central carved shell motif, supported by four cabriole legs ending in carved feet. Signs of age include surface wear and distressed gilding across the wooden frame. The table measures 84 cm high, 101 cm wide and 60 cm deep. It functions well in an entrance hall placed beside the front door, or against a living room wall as a display surface.

18th-century Venetian console tables are identified by their ornate Rococo styling, featuring asymmetrical carved scrollwork, cabriole legs, leaf motifs, and water-gilded wood finishes, often paired with polychrome or specimen marble tops.

These pieces were typically carved from softwoods such as pine or lime, layered with gesso, and coated with red bole before gold leaf application. The tops were frequently made from imported marbles, scagliola, or geometric stone inlays.

Authentic pieces display hand-carved tool marks on the frame reverse, visible red or grey bole peeking through areas of worn gilding, natural wood shrinkage joints, and heavy hand-cut stone tops with period-appropriate underside wear.

Place the table against a neutral or dark backdrop in an entryway or hallway to create a focal point, pairing it with contemporary artwork or a simple gilded mirror above to balance the detailed carving.

Dust giltwood surfaces gently with a soft, dry camel-hair brush to avoid flaking the gold leaf, and refrain from using water or liquid polishes. Clean the marble top using a damp cloth with neutral pH stone cleaner.
