Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian card tables were crafted during the 19th century specifically for social games such as bridge or whist. They typically feature a hinged top that folds over or swivels to expose a playing surface, supported by decorative pedestal bases.

These tables were commonly constructed using rich hardwoods like rosewood, mahogany, or walnut, often applied as highly figured veneers over solid pine or oak frames. The interior playing surfaces were usually fitted with wool baize or leather.

Authentic pieces feature traditional joinery, brass piano hinges or pivot mechanisms, hand-carved pedestals or aprons, and original castors. Look for signs of timber shrinkage near joints and genuine age-related wear to the finish.

When closed, a card table functions as a console or side table against a hallway wall or behind a sofa. It can be dressed with modern table lamps, ceramic vases, or framed art, and rotated or opened for use during gatherings.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent veneer lifting or fading. Clean with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish periodically along the wood grain.
