This Regency card table in the William IV style employs dark brown rosewood with a polished finish and a fold-over top. The construction includes a cylindrical turned central pedestal rising from a concave four-point platform base with carved lion claw feet and barrel castors. The photograph reveals richly figured grain variations across the timber, a reeded moulding running along the table edge, and turned decorative collars on the column shaft. Measuring 70 cm high, 91 cm wide, and 45 cm deep when closed, the piece offers a compact profile suited for placement against a wall in a living room, hallway, or study. It functions as a display console or unfolds to serve as a games table.

Produced between 1830 and 1837, William IV furniture serves as a transitional style between Regency and early Victorian design, characterised by bold proportions, turned pedestals, and prominent carved details.

Tables from this period were typically crafted from solid mahogany or rosewood, finished with decorative wood veneers, brass fold-over hinges, and interior wool baize playing surfaces.

Authentic examples feature heavy turned central columns, concave quadform bases, carved claw or acanthus feet, and top surfaces that swivel before unfolding.

When not in use for gaming, the folded table functions effectively as a hall console or side table placed against a wall, beneath artwork, or in an alcove.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year, avoiding placement near direct radiator heat or strong sunlight.
