Masons Ironstone is a patented type of heavy earthenware developed in the 19th century in England, known for its durability and resemblance to oriental porcelain.

These pieces were crafted from a dense mixture of feldspar, china clay, and flint, then hand-painted or transfer-printed with vibrant enamels and often gilded with gold leaf.

Authentic items typically feature impressed or stamped maker marks on the base, substantial weight due to the ironstone body, and characteristic crazing or wear consistent with age.

It can be displayed on an open kitchen shelf, used as a small vase for dried botanicals, or placed on a mantelpiece to add historical texture and vibrant colour to a room.

Antique ceramics should be washed gently by hand in lukewarm water with mild soap, avoiding abrasive scrubbers, dishwashers, and prolonged soaking to protect the glaze and gilding.
