We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Victorian furniture encompasses a range of revival styles prevalent during the reign of Queen Victoria, characteristically featuring rich dark woods, intricate craftsmanship and ornamental details.

Cabinet makers typically utilised solid secondary timbers like pine or mahogany as a structural base, applying decorative veneers such as burr walnut, alongside boxwood stringing and brass hardware.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting traditional joinery methods, hand-cut dovetails, the natural ageing and patination of the timber, and original components such as castors and hinges.

Placing a heritage piece against a neutral wall allows the natural wood grain and marquetry to function as a focal point, contrasting effectively with contemporary seating.

Surfaces should be dusted regularly with a soft, dry cloth and treated periodically with microcrystalline wax to nourish the timber without damaging the historic finish.
