The Georgian period spans the reigns of the first four Georges from 1714 to 1830, characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and the increasing use of high-quality imported mahogany timbers influenced by designers such as Chippendale and Sheraton.

Cabinet makers typically used dense tropical hardwoods like Cuban or Honduras mahogany, often featuring decorative veneer cuts such as flame mahogany on pine or oak secondary bases, finished with hand-cut dovetail joints.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery methods, hand-planed surfaces with characteristic tool marks, natural wax patination, and timber shrinkage consistent with age rather than machine-made precision.

Position the piece as an occasional table next to a sofa or armchair, allowing the rich wood grain and historical craftsmanship to provide a sophisticated contrast against neutral walls and modern textures.

Maintain the timber by applying microcrystalline wax sparingly and buffing with a soft cloth, keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the wood from drying out or cracking.
