ANTIQUE #SA1025011

Flemish Tapestry, Circa 1570, 3.40m X 3.70m

£28,000    $37,526    €32,799
Woven in the Oudenaard workshops of Flanders and dating to the last part of the 16th century, this imposing tapestry depicts the well-known moment when the Queen of Sheba presents gifts to King Solomon, surrounded by courtiers. There are wonderful architectural and landscape features too, as well as the intricate drawing of the costumes of the main figures. Note too the charming scene in the top right hand corner of the field with a camel train. Indeed the wealth of detail and beautiful drawing are quite spectacular. The borders are a fine frame and equally attractive, composed of fruit and lush vegetation. The subtle shades of green gold and blue create a stunning visual impact. Probably adjusted in the width, this wonderful tapestry is a wonderful size which could now work in many decorative schemes, both domestic and commercial.
