This Victorian burr walnut games and sewing table exemplifies English country house furniture, standing 76 cm high, 67 cm wide, and 40 cm deep. The piece presents a warm brown colour with rich burr walnut veneer and boxwood inlay detailing across the quarter-veneered top, drawer front, and hanging work well. The visible structure incorporates fluted and tapered upright columns, turned stretchers with central ornamentation, carved cabriole legs terminating in brass-mounted ceramic castors, and three small turned finials beneath the work well. A keyhole sits centrally on the single drawer. Practical for contemporary interiors, this multi-functional table suits placement in an empty corner, a living room, or a study as an occasional table with concealed storage. The drop-down textile bag accommodates sewing materials, while the upper compartments house games accessories. The compact footprint makes it suitable for smaller spaces, providing both display surface and compartmented storage without dominating a room.

During the nineteenth century, these multifunctional tables served as centrepieces for domestic leisure in drawing rooms, providing structured storage for needlework apparatus alongside surfaces for writing or tabletop board games.

Victorian examples were frequently veneered in figured timbers such as burr walnut, rosewood, or mahogany over a pine or oak groundwork, often incorporating marquetry inlays made of boxwood or fruitwood.

Authentic pieces generally display period construction techniques, including hand-cut dovetail joints on internal drawers, original ceramic or brass castors, hand-turned supports, and natural timber wear beneath the base and well.

A small occasional table of this scale functions effectively as a side table beside an armchair, within a reading nook, or positioned in an alcove to display decorative ceramics and lamps.

Keep the timber away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent veneer cracking or fading, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish periodically using a soft cloth along the direction of the wood grain.
