This Edwardian barware piece is an ice bucket made from oak, silver plate, and ceramic, dating from around 1900. The item takes the form of a coopered dark brown wood bucket bound with bright polished silver-plated bands, secured with visible metal screw fixings, and fitted with a twisted metal swing handle at the top. Inside sits an undamaged original white creamware ceramic liner, accompanied by a silver-plated drainer at the base. Atkin Brothers fully marks the underside of the vessel. Measuring 12.7 cm high, 13.3 cm wide, and 13.3 cm deep, the item stands 20.3 cm to the top of the handle. Today, this functional antique serves as a practical bar accessory, suited for display on a sideboard top in a gentleman's library, dining room, or living space. The bucket functions effectively for chilling ice during entertaining while adding period character to a tabletop setting.

Coopered oak ice buckets were popularised during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, combining traditional wooden cask-making techniques with decorative metalwork for domestic entertaining.

Traditional construction featured solid oak staves held together by brass or electroplated silver hoops, often paired with a removable ceramic or metal liner to contain moisture.

Authentic period pieces typically exhibit hand-fitted wooden staves, original silver-plate or nickel fittings, and heavy earthenware or creamware liners designed specifically for the interior dimensions.

Position the ice bucket on a dark wood sideboard, modern bar cart, or drinks cabinet alongside crystal glassware to create an authentic focal point for entertaining.

Clean the ceramic liner separately with warm water, polish the silver fittings using a soft silver cloth, and keep the exterior oak wood dry and conditioned with natural wax polish.
