Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This mid-century Italian coffee table dates from the nineteenth century and combines an imported Italian specimen marble top with a Chinese style warm brown walnut base. The multi-coloured top incorporates large square and diamond-shaped marbles and semi-precious stones arranged in a checkerboard pattern containing 160 different pieces, all set within a brass frame. The wooden base shows a moulded edge, recessed apron handles, hipped legs with beading on the fore edge, and block feet. The top is 61 cm high, 91 cm wide, and 61 cm deep. Placed in a modern sitting room or drawing room, this piece serves as a distinctive centre table before a sofa.

FAQs

A specimen marble coffee table features a tabletop inlaid with geometric samples of various polished marbles, semi-precious stones, or minerals, originating from European micro-mosaic and Grand Tour collection traditions.

These pieces typically combine a solid hardwood frame, such as walnut or fruitwood, with an inset stone panel made of marble varieties, onyx, jasper, and breccia fitted together.

Authentic pieces feature tight hand-fitted joins between individual stone samples, natural surface variations across the stone types, and solid wood joinery securing the heavy top.

Place the table centrally in front of neutral upholstered seating, leaving the complex geometric top visible by minimizing tabletop accessories to subtle glass or ceramic items.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft cloth and clean stone with a pH-neutral cleaner, wiping spills immediately to prevent acid etching, while polishing the wood frame with natural beeswax.
