Palais Royal souvenir boxes refer to luxury items and small decorative objects retailed from the Palais Royal arcades in Paris during the 19th century, often crafted from mother of pearl, tortoiseshell, and gilt brass for affluent tourists.

These pieces were typically constructed using thin plaques of mother of pearl, abalone, or bone, assembled over a wooden or card framework, often secured with brass pins and featuring hand-engraved ink details.

Authentic items display natural iridescent grain variations, hand-cut components with minor irregularities, period-appropriate hinges, and genuine ink fill in engraved inscriptions rather than modern printed transfers.

Such small decorative items work well displayed on a mantlepiece, bookshelf, or side table within a collection of curiosities, adding subtle texture and historical interest to a room.

Mother of pearl should be cleaned only with a soft, dry microfibre cloth to remove dust. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, abrasives, and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to prevent fading and surface damage.
