The Pembroke table originated in the 18th century, traditionally attributed to Henry Herbert, the 9th Earl of Pembroke, designed as a versatile breakfast or occasional table with hinged drop leaves.

These tables were typically constructed from fine timbers such as mahogany or satinwood, featuring mortise and tenon joints, hand-cut dovetails in the drawers, and turned or tapered legs.

Authenticity is identified through period-appropriate joinery, timber shrinkage, hand-forged or early brass fixings, and natural patina consistent with age and usage rather than artificial distress.

A Pembroke table functions effectively as a slim writing desk or an occasional surface in a living room, where its drop leaves can be lowered to save space or raised for functionality.

Preserve antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, applying microcrystalline wax periodically, and avoiding silicone-based polishes.
