This 1930 Art Deco powder jar consists of a cylindrical ceramic vessel with a matching lid formed as a half doll flapper figure. The Austrian piece wears a slate blue coat and cloche hat, a white winter collar, and holds a black hand muff, complemented by a glossy glaze finish over porcelain. Painted facial features show black hair, blue eyes, and pink blushed cheeks on a white complexion. The container measures 17.5 cm high, 8.8 cm wide, and 8.8 cm deep. Placed on a bedside table or dressing surface in a modern home, it functions practically as a lidded container for small personal items such as trinkets or cosmetics while serving as a decorative sculptural accent.

A half doll powder jar is a functional cosmetic container produced during the early 20th century, where the lid forms the upper torso of a figurine and the jar base completes the skirt or lower body. During the Art Deco period, these items were styled to reflect contemporary fashion trends, including flapper attire, bobbed hair, and cloche hats.

These decorative pots were typically made from slip-cast porcelain, ceramic, or glass. The figurative lids were hand-painted or glazed prior to kiln firing, resulting in durable glossy finishes and fine facial details.

Authentic period ceramics usually display stamped or impressed makers marks, country of origin marks, or numerical shape codes on the underside of the base. Additionally, period glazes display distinct age-appropriate wear to unglazed rim contact points and refined moulding detail in line with manufacturing techniques of the era.

Position the piece on a dressing table, vanity unit, or bathroom shelf alongside contemporary glassware to create a textural contrast. It serves effectively as a functional storage pot for small jewellery or as a standalone sculptural accent on a curated bookshelf.

Clean glazed ceramic surfaces using a soft, dry cloth or a slightly dampened cloth with mild soapy water, taking care to avoid abrasive materials. Do not submerge painted porcelain in water if cold-painted elements are present, and dry all components thoroughly before replacing the lid.
