Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian Continental porcelain lidded vase dates from 1880 and adopts a French Chateau decorative style. The white glazed body displays applied and encrusted pink and yellow roses with green leaves on climbing branches, supported by three sculpted putti figures carrying the vessel. A removable lid sits on top, featuring a seated child finial wearing a red strap. One of the supporting cherubs wears a blue drape with yellow straps, another wears a pink drape, and the top figure has a white finish. The piece measures 30 cm high, 16 cm wide, and 16 cm deep, with a small chip to one of the cherubs' feet. Placed on a mantelpiece, this decorative vase serves as an ornamental accent in a living room, drawing room, or hallway.

FAQs

Nineteenth-century Continental porcelain lidded urns are decorative vessels, frequently produced in regions such as Germany and France, characterised by detailed hand-painted enamelling and sculpted elements like putti and high-relief flora.

These items were fashioned from hard-paste porcelain, cast in moulds with separately hand-modelled figurines and encrusted flowers applied prior to firing, then finished with overglaze polychrome enamels and gilding.

Authentic pieces feature crisp moulding, hand-painted details with fine brushstrokes, visible wear to gilding or unglazed foot rims, and underglaze makers marks or impressed numerical codes on the underside.

A figural porcelain urn serves as a sculptural focal point when displayed on a dark wood mantelpiece, a minimalist sideboard, or inside a glass display cabinet to contrast classical craftsmanship against clean contemporary lines.

Clean encrusted porcelain by gently dusting with a soft, dry camel-hair brush, avoiding immersion in water or chemical solvents which could dissolve historical repairs or damage delicate hand-painted glaze details.
