Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Georgian inlaid mahogany foldover tea table dates to 1800 and is finished in a warm brown original polish. The piece displays delicate boxwood string inlay along the frieze and legs, square tapered legs, and small brass castors. The rectangular top folds open to accommodate guests, while the sturdy construction supports daily use in a narrow wall space or hallway within an English country house interior. The tea table measures 76 cm high, 91.5 cm wide, and 91.5 cm deep when closed. Placed against a neutral wall or in a transitional space, it provides a functional surface for lamps, decorative objects, or serving tea while adding period character to the room.

FAQs

Originating in the 18th century, a Georgian foldover tea table is an accent table designed with a hinged lid that opens to double its surface area, traditionally used for serving tea or playing card games.

These tables were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, featuring fine boxwood or satinwood string inlay, tapered legs, and often brass castors.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut joinery, oak or pine secondary woods on the frame interior, original brass hinges, and subtle hand-planed texture on the undersides.

Position the table folded closed against a wall to function as a compact console, topped with a modern lamp or ceramic vessel to mix traditional and contemporary elements.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and prolonged sunlight, dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year.
