This metamorphic drinks table from the Edwardian period dates to approximately 1910 in the Louis XV Revival style. Constructed from dark brown mahogany with brass fittings and glass elements, the piece displays serpentine carved aprons, elegant cabriole legs, and delicate marquetry inlay on the hinged fold-out side leaves. The design incorporates a rising central tray holding three crystal glasses visible on the surface. When closed, the table conceals the glassware entirely, and the removable tray functions practically to serve drinks when elevated. Well suited for entertaining or quiet moments, this functional table sits neatly in an empty corner, a study, or a drawing room as a conversation piece. Its compact footprint makes it practical for modern living spaces where occasional surface area is required. Standing at a convenient height of 76 cm with the leaves extended, it provides a versatile option for displaying glassware or serving guests during social gatherings in the home.

A metamorphic drinks table is a specialised piece of mechanical furniture designed with an internal rising mechanism that elevates a central drinks tray when the top leaves are opened.

These tables are commonly constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut, incorporating brass hinges and sliding mechanical components.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut dovetail joinery, counterbalanced internal rising mechanisms, original brass fittings, and smooth leaf movement without modern synthetic fasteners.

Position the piece against a wall or beside seating as an accent table, leaving the top surface minimal so the mechanical transformation can be revealed during gatherings.

Keep the timber clean with a dry microfibre cloth, apply natural beeswax along the outer surfaces, and ensure the internal rising mechanism remains free from dust without forcing the hinges.
