This Victorian centre table dates from 1870 and displays warm brown burr walnut veneers, fruitwood marquetry inlay, and a French polished finish. The circular top incorporates a central cluster of flowers surrounding a red rose, bordered by book-matched burr walnut, boxwood lines, and a repeated floral marquetry frieze following the perimeter. Supported by a carved pedestal base with three cabriole legs terminating in scroll toes with brass castors, the table measures 74 cm high, 135 cm wide, and 135 cm deep. In a modern interior, this piece serves as a formal centre table in a grand entrance hall, a freestanding display surface in a drawing room, or a compact dining table for intimate gatherings. The intricate floral motifs and rich timber grain complement traditional English country house aesthetics while providing a practical, high-status surface for daily use or entertaining.

Originating in the 19th century, Victorian centre tables were designed to stand in the middle of a room or entryway, featuring detailed wood veneer inlays known as marquetry to showcase woodworking techniques.

These tables typically showcase burr walnut or mahogany veneers accented with decorative floral or geometric inlays crafted from lighter woods such as boxwood, satinwood, or fruitwood.

Authentic period pieces feature natural wood grain variations, hand-carved pedestal bases, original tilt-top latch mechanisms, and hand-cut marquetry patterns displaying light surface patination.

Position the table as a central focal point in an entryway or formal living space, pairing its detailed wood patterns with neutral wall colours and contemporary direct lighting.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply natural beeswax sparingly twice a year, keeping the table away from direct sunlight and radiator heat to prevent veneer lift.
