This 1900 Victorian Country Pursuits cribbage board consists of a natural stag horn shaped with two upright tines and a wooden peg stopper fitted at one end. The piece displays a natural tan finish with darker brown patches at the tips and base, alongside hand-drilled peg holes arranged in rows within incised grid lines. Measuring 4 cm high, 28 cm wide, and 15.5 cm deep, it has a good size for display. Positioned on a bookshelf or desk in a Highland hunting lodge style room, the board serves as both an antique games board and a decorative conversation piece. The natural antler texture, dark markings near the tips, and visible grain variations complement traditional and rustic home interiors.

During the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, natural items derived from country sportssuch as stag antlers and hornwere frequently fashioned into utilitarian household objects and games, reflecting a popular interest in Highland culture and folk art.

Crafters selected suitable sections of shed antler or worked horn, smoothing a section flat to incise linear scoring tracks and drill precise peg holes directly into the natural material.

Authentic period pieces exhibit natural variation in density and colouration, hand-drilled scoring holes that may show slight irregularities, and smooth patina across areas handled during gameplay.

These decorative organic objects work exceptionally well styled on dark wood bookshelves, coffee table trays, or alongside brass accessories on a desk to add texture and historical interest.

Keep horn objects away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture to prevent drying or warping, and clean gently with a soft dry cloth without using harsh chemical polishers.
