FAQs

Victorian furniture spans the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837 to 1901, characterised by a revival of historical epochs mixed with industrial manufacturing techniques, often featuring heavy proportions and rich timbers.

Cabinet makers predominantly utilised dense hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, and walnut, frequently employing intricate veneers like burr walnut alongside solid secondary timbers for structural components.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting joinery methods such as hand-cut dovetails, original hardware, natural patination of the wood, and tool marks consistent with nineteenth-century workshop practices.

Pairing historical wooden pieces with minimalist contemporary seating or sleek architectural lighting creates a balanced juxtaposition that highlights the craftsmanship of the vintage item.

Maintain antique timber by avoiding direct sunlight and excessive humidity fluctuations, periodically applying traditional beeswax to nourish the wood and protect the polished finish.
