Ww11 Ships Telegraph Maritime Instrument,liverpool,c 1940

1920 - 1940
For Sale by Curious Antiques
Description

Antique mid 20th century ship telegraph maritime instrument , c 1940. It looks to be WW11 period and is marked with the makers name 'A. Robinson and Co, Liverpool' . I was told it was from a WW11 minesweeper? It is in good original condition with minor surface wear to the case. The main body is painted red which appears original. The wheel may have been repainted as it is a mix of silver and black paint.? The wheel rotates well and the dial moves freely across the various settings. The internal workings appear to be complete (but I am not an expert). It has aged well with good colour/patina and nice distressed look to the paintwork. Please refer to the detailed photographs and feel free to contact me with any questions or if you would like to view the item.

Size: 27 cm tall x 18 cm wide x 27 cm deep . I will happily ship worldwide.

Date of Manufacture

Curious Antiques has dated this Ww2 Ships Engine Telegraph to the 1940s.

This Second World War maritime ship engine order telegraph originates from Liverpool circa 1940. The industrial piece incorporates a cast iron, steel, brass, glass, and painted construction featuring a red painted housing, a black and silver four-spoke handwheel, and a circular indicator dial behind glass with ahead and astern text. Visible details include a black handle with a slotted screw, minor surface wear to the red case, and chipped black and silver paint on the handwheel. The instrument measures 27 cm high, 18 cm wide, and 27 cm deep. It functions effectively on an office desk in a gentleman's library setting to display nautical character.

An engine order telegraph is a communications device used on board a vessel for the bridge crew to transmit speed and directional commands to the engine room.

Vintage maritime telegraphs were constructed using cast iron, heavy brass, bronze, glass, and steel to endure harsh marine environments and corrosion.

Authentic 1940s pieces typically feature heavy cast metal housings, period maker markings or location stamps, clear mechanical dials with speed commands, and genuine operational wear.

A vintage maritime telegraph serves as an industrial focal point when placed on a sideboard, desk, or open shelving within a study, library, or coastal-themed living space.

Maintain the object by dusting gently with a dry, non-abrasive cloth, keeping painted and metal surfaces free from moisture to prevent further oxidisation or paint loss.
