FAQs

Walnut has been prized in furniture making for centuries, particularly during the 17th and 19th centuries, due to its rich grain patterns and durability. It frequently served as the primary timber for high-end dining furniture before mahogany gained widespread popularity.

These tables are traditionally constructed from solid hardwoods like walnut or oak, often featuring hand-carved legs, mortise and tenon joints, and mechanisms for table leaves to extend the surface area.

Authentication relies on examining joinery methods, such as hand-cut dovetails or pegs, natural timber ageing, oxidisation, and tool marks consistent with period manufacturing techniques rather than modern machine production.

Pairing a period wooden table with contemporary minimalist seating or industrial lighting creates a balanced, eclectic aesthetic that highlights the historical craftsmanship while maintaining modern functionality.

Protect the timber by avoiding direct sunlight and moisture, maintaining consistent indoor humidity to prevent wood splitting, and periodically applying a quality beeswax to nourish the finish.
