FAQs

Late 17th-century gateleg tables are characterised by hinged drop leaves supported by swinging legs, sturdy timber construction, and turned underframing designed for multi-functional living spaces.

These pieces were constructed primarily from native hardwoods like elm and oak, joined using traditional pegged mortise and tenon joints, with hand-turned stretchers and legs.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate tool marks, hand-planed surfaces, natural timber shrinkage, peg construction, and authentic patination accumulated over centuries of use.

Position the table as a central focal point in a dining room or living space, pairing it with contrasting modern seating to highlight its historic craftsmanship and warm timber tones.

Maintain antique timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and treat it periodically with traditional beeswax to nourish the wood without damaging the finish.
