Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. This late Victorian centre table from 1880 takes the form of an octagonal walnut piece with an original polish finish that displays visible signs of fading and surface wear across the top. Turned columns rise from a robust quadruped base supported by small castors at the feet. The warm brown timber shows distinct grain patterns and lighter worn patches under natural light. Practical dimensions stand at 76 cm high by 122 cm wide and 122 cm deep. Position this table in a grand hallway centre or a spacious living room as a central display surface for lamps, books, or decorative objects. The sturdy base design and generous proportions offer a reliable surface for daily use while maintaining its authentic antique character within a traditional or eclectic interior scheme.

FAQs

Victorian centre tables were designed as decorative focal points to sit centrally in a parlour or entrance hall, featuring ornate woodwork, pedestal bases, and geometric or rounded tops.

Craftsmen predominantly used solid hardwoods and timber veneers such as walnut, mahogany, and rosewood, supported by turned central columns, quadruped legs, and brass or ceramic castors.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut joinery, turned timber column supports, natural wood grain beneath original finishes, and period-correct metal or ceramic wheel castors.

Place the table in an entryway or living room as a central anchor, decorating the top with ceramic vases, art volumes, or floral arrangements to blend historical character with modern design.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft dry cloth, apply natural beeswax polish along the grain periodically, and keep the timber protected from direct sunlight and heat sources.
