Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 19TH CENTURY:
Carved foliate scroll legs on brass castors: mid-to-late Victorian cabinet work.
Internal screw mechanism with winding handle: classic 19th-century extending table engineering.
Pedestal column splitting into two pods when opened: standard Victorian patent design.
Lighter main top beside darker leaves: natural fading from prolonged light exposure.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This nineteenth-century Victorian dining table is formed of a round top in warm brown walnut timber with visible natural grain patterns and a polished finish. The extending structure incorporates a central top surface, three matching rectangular leaves positioned vertically behind the base, and an expanding mechanism supported by a heavy pedestal. Elaborate carved details include scroll motifs, acanthus leaves, and foliate ornamentation across the feet, which terminate in castors beneath curved structural supports. The dimensions are 75 cm high, 152.5 cm wide, and 327.5 cm deep. Positioned in a grand dining room or formal reception space, this large extendable table serves as a functional centrepiece for large family gatherings and dinner parties. The removable leaves allow the seating capacity to be adjusted according to the occasion, while the sturdy pedestal base provides ample legroom beneath the apron. The dark timber tones complement traditional interior aesthetics, pairing well with antique chairs, sideboards, and period decoration in a country house setting.

Extending dining tables from the 19th century feature integrated wooden runner systems or mechanical telescopic mechanisms designed to pull apart, allowing additional wood leaves to be inserted to expand seating capacity.

These tables were primarily crafted from dense hardwoods such as solid mahogany, walnut, or rosewood, often accented with rich flame veneers, brass clips, and cast iron or brass castors.

Authentic period tables typically show hand-planed underside construction, hand-carved pedestal details, original brass leaf hardware or winding mechanisms, and natural colour variations between the main top and removable leaves.

A large antique dining table creates an anchoring focal point when paired with modern upholstered dining chairs, minimal lighting fixtures, or placed within an open-plan eating area.

Clean surfaces with a soft, lint-free cloth, apply high-grade beeswax polish periodically along the grain, and protect the timber from direct sunlight, hot serving dishes, and excessive humidity fluctuations.
