Rococo Revival furniture, prominent in the late 19th century, draws structural inspiration from 18th-century French Louis XV designs, characterized by asymmetric scrollwork, acanthus leaves, cabriole legs, and gilded wood surfaces.

These tables were typically constructed from carved wood frames coated with gesso and hand-applied gold leaf gilding, finished with a shaped natural marble slab top.

Authentic pieces feature natural surface wear and oxidisation on the gilded finish, hand-carved joinery on the wooden underframe, gesso layering under the gilding, and hand-cut marble edging.

Place the table against a neutral wall in a hallway or entry space, pairing it with a wall-mounted mirror or contemporary artwork above to balance the detailed period carving with modern architectural lines.

Dust the gilded frame gently using a soft feather duster, avoiding water or chemical polish that can strip gold leaf. Clean the marble top using a damp cloth with neutral pH soap.
