Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1900s:
Hand-chased floral and foliate motifs on the top: decorative work of the Art Nouveau period.
Cast brass scroll-bracket feet: Continental foundry fittings of the early 1900s.
Embossed bands on the column: repoussé metalwork typical of circa 1900 brassware.
Beaded rim mouldings: rolled edge technique standard in early 20th-century brass furniture.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This brass side table dates from the period around 1900 in the Dutch Art Nouveau style with a gold colour finish. The circular top carries an embossed repoussé floral pattern and is bordered by beaded edging, standing on a central pedestal column with decorative turned bands above a stepped circular base supported by three small scroll feet. The piece measures 61 cm high, 50 cm wide, and 50 cm deep. Practical for use as a coffee or wine table at the end of a sofa or beside a chair in a gentleman's library, the table offers a polished metallic surface and solid brass construction suitable for daily placement in a living space. The design combines floral motifs with structured classical column elements, creating a functional furnishing from the early twentieth century.

Dutch Art Nouveau emerged around the turn of the 20th century, combining clean structural forms with restrained, stylised organic motifs. Metalwork from this movement frequently features hand-hammered, chased, or repousse brass work with floral and linear patterns.

These tables were constructed using sheet brass for embossed tops alongside cast or turned brass columns. Bases were often weighted internally with cast iron or heavy metal footings to maintain balance.

Authentic pieces display hand-tooled detailing with subtle surface variations rather than identical machine stamping. Original items also show evidence of historical polishing and gentle oxidisation within recessed pattern lines.

Position the piece as an occasional accent table beside an armchair or sofa. The reflective metallic surface creates visual contrast against dark velvet upholstery, matte painted walls, or timber flooring.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth to remove debris. Avoid harsh abrasive cleaners or ammonia-based polishes that could strip surface lacquers or remove age-appropriate patination.
