This nineteenth century Victorian miniature table from Ireland follows the gentleman's library style. Constructed from warm brown mahogany with a polished single-board top and a plain frieze, it stands on turned legs fitted with brass castors having black porcelain wheels, showing a moulded top edge. The maker's punch mark for Jones and Company of Dublin sits to the underside of the rail. Measuring 30.5 cm high, 66 cm wide, and 42 cm deep, it provides compact display utility. Positioned on a sideboard top, this small table complements traditional reception rooms or studies. It serves as an accent display surface for small decorative objects or collections in a home today.

Miniature furniture was traditionally crafted in the 18th and 19th centuries as scale salesman samples to display a cabinetmakers capabilities or as apprentice pieces completed to demonstrate master craftsmanship.

Cabinetmakers utilised high-quality dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, and rosewood, employing full-scale joinery techniques along with miniature brass fittings and scaled castors.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct construction techniques including hand-cut dovetail joints, wood oxidation on unfinished undersides, original maker stamps or labels, and genuine age-related surface patina.

These scaled pieces serve as functional tabletop risers on sideboards, elegant desk accessories, or decorative accent objects displayed within bookshelves and vitrines.

Position the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage, dust with a soft microfibre cloth, and apply natural beeswax sparingly to preserve the original polish.
