Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Originating in the 19th century, centre tables were designed to sit in the middle of a room, foyer, or grand drawing room as a focal point. They typically featured decorative wood veneers, elaborate bases, and symmetrical geometry suitable for viewing from all angles.

Cabinetmakers frequently utilised exotic burr veneers such as amboyna, walnut, and rosewood, often paired with ebonised borders. Fine examples incorporated gilt-bronze mounts, marquetry inlay, or porcelain plaquettes mounted to the apron.

Authentic late 19th-century pieces display hand-cut joinery, period-appropriate timber shrinkage on untrimmed undersides, and natural age patina on metal mounts or timber finishes. The use of octagonal or circular tops supported by quadform pedestal bases is also characteristic of the era.

A centre table functions well as a focal point in a spacious entryway or sitting room. Pair it with structured contemporary ceramics, a central floral arrangement, or art books to balance historical detailing with modern minimalism.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply high-grade beeswax sparingly to protect the wood grain. Avoid harsh chemical solvents near porcelain roundels or gilt fittings, cleaning metal or ceramic elements gently with a dry cotton swab.
