Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This mid-19th-century French Rococo Revival centrepiece combines cobalt blue and white porcelain with gilded bronze mounts and enamel. The bowl displays a hand-painted outdoor pastoral scene with gentry figures in purple and blue clothing, framed by intricate gold foliage patterns. Elaborate cast gilt bronze scroll handles arch upward from the sides, complemented by a pierced gilt rim and an ornate gilt bronze base supported by four leaf-shaped feet. The piece measures 37 cm high, 60 cm wide and 31 cm deep. Such a centrepiece provides a striking focal point when placed on a dining table or sideboard in contemporary and traditional rooms alike.

FAQs

Mid-19th-century Sevres style porcelain is characterised by vivid ground colours, particularly deep cobalt blue, intricate gilding, and hand-painted reserves depicting romantic or pastoral scenes. Produced during the French Second Empire and Victorian era, these pieces often incorporated elaborate gilt bronze ormolu mounts reflecting Rococo Revival design.

These decorative vessels were constructed by fitting hand-painted porcelain bodies into custom-cast bronze mounts that were gilded using mercury amalgams or electroplating. The metalwork typically includes scrolled handles, pierced rims, and decorative bases held together by internal steel threaded rods.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-painted vignettes with visible brushwork, hand-applied gilding showing light natural wear, and detailed metalwork with age-appropriate patina. Makers marks, such as crossed Ls with date letters or factory marks, are often present on the glaze underside.

A decorative porcelain centrepiece serves as a focal object on a dining table, sideboard top, or hallway console. Displaying the ornate metalwork and cobalt colour against neutral walls or natural stone surfaces creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern architectural lines.

Dust surfaces regularly using a soft, lint-free cloth or a camel-hair brush. Avoid chemical cleaners, metal polish, or immersing the item in water, as moisture can oxidise internal fixings and compromise hand-painted enamel and gilded details.
