Robert Belcher Antiques was established in 1984 and is a high-quality retailer of interesting, rare antiques and decorative objects. After forty years of shop keeping and maintaining beautiful showrooms, which have been regularly open six days a week, Robert and Wendy have now taken a slightly different approach to their business. Having sold their retail premises, the antique business is now fully online. The picture framing service has ceased to operate because of moving online.

You can contact Robert and Wendy by email or telephone to discuss items from their extensive catalogue of attractive pieces and make purchases. Customers can rest assured that the long-established dealership is continuing to run in an exceedingly professional way, selling genuine and high-quality items which are guaranteed to please the most discerning collector, decorator or homeowner.

All items will be personally hand packaged to a high standard. Small items are extensively wrapped using the best materials and are often double boxed. Items are then shipped with DHL or Royal Mail fully insured and often with next day delivery. Larger items would be personally delivered or sent with a specialist antique delivery firm, or for outside the U.K, a professional shipping company.

Please enjoy viewing their collection of rare and interesting pieces and have the assurance that Robert and Wendy will do their utmost to make sure your experience is exceptional, as has been recognised by many customers who have bought with confidence regularly over the years.

This early 20th century Edwardian Arts and Crafts book is an edition of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam published around 1910 by George G Harrap and Co Ltd, London, with illustrations by Willy Pogany. The volume is fully bound in a grained black leather with a dark leather spine, featuring red and pure gold lettering on the front cover, blind embossed strapwork borders, and red and gold arabesque medallions. The text block contains printed pages with light foxing and age-related marks. Measuring 22.5 cm high, 16 cm wide, and 2 cm deep, the book is sized to sit on a bookshelf in a gentleman's library or study in a modern home.

Early 20th-century decorative bindings, particularly from the Edwardian era, often incorporated elements of Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts design. Publishers used gold leaf embossing, intricate strapwork, and stylized orientalist motifs on leather or cloth bindings to create visually expressive covers.

Volumes from the c.1910 period were commonly bound using goat skin morocco leather, calfskin, or textured cloth over heavy boards. Cover embellishments were applied using hot brass stamps with genuine gold leaf and colored pigments.

Authentic editions from circa 1910 can be identified by their publication metadata on the title or copyright page, period-specific typography, hand-tooled gilt details, and contemporary binding techniques such as sewn signatures.

Decorative vintage and antique books are frequently styled on coffee tables, mantelpieces, and open shelving to add texture, history, and vertical layering to modern living spaces and studies.

Store antique books upright in a temperature-controlled environment away from direct sunlight and humidity. Handle with clean, dry hands, avoid pulling books by the top of the spine, and keep leather supple using specialist conservation wax if necessary.
