This Georgian oak tripod tipping table dates from the eighteenth century. The piece has a circular top finished in a warm brown colour with visible wood grain, supported by a turned baluster column and three curved cabriole legs terminating in pad feet. The table includes a tilt-top mechanism that allows the surface to be positioned vertically when not in use. With a top diameter of 55 cm, a height of 68.5 cm when the top is down, and a height of 101.5 cm when the top is up, this smaller example is very handy and versatile. The piece suits placement in an empty corner of an English country house interior for display or casual use.

Originating in the 18th century, tripod tilt-top tables feature a three-legged base and a hinged circular top designed to tilt vertically for compact storage along walls when not in use.

These tables were typically crafted from native hardwoods such as English oak, walnut, or imported mahogany, assembled using hand-cut iron tilt latches and turned central pillars.

Authentic pieces feature hand-carved turned columns, hand-forged iron catch mechanisms, asymmetrical peg construction beneath the top, and natural wear around the leg joints.

A tripod table functions as an occasional side table beside armchairs, in reading nooks, or positioned in entryways to display ceramics and lighting.

Dust regularly with a dry cloth and apply beeswax polish annually, while maintaining stable humidity and keeping the piece away from direct heat sources to prevent timber movement.
