Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Chinese provincial coffee table originates from around 1900 and functions as a low market trader's table. Constructed from pine, the piece displays a warm brown timber colour with a heavily weathered and patinated surface. The rectangular three-plank cleated top shows visible wood grain and natural aging, supported by thick block legs and exposed mortise and tenon joinery connected by flush stretchers. Signs of hard wear consistent with age remain visible across the entire wooden structure, adding to its rustic farmhouse character. The table measures 30 cm high, 85 cm wide, and 51 cm deep. Placed in a modern living room or an eclectic lounge area, it serves as a central coffee table positioned in front of a sofa or seating arrangement to provide a functional surface for everyday use.

FAQs

A Chinese market traders table is a low timber platform featuring exposed joinery, historically used by street vendors in late 19th and early 20th-century China to display goods and wares.

These tables are constructed from local softwoods such as pine or elm, using traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery and flush stretchers without metal nails or screws.

Authentic period examples demonstrate hand-carved mortise joints, structural leg stretchers, natural surface wear from commercial use, and an unvarnished wood patina.

A low market table functions as a rustic coffee table, grounding a central living space when paired with modern upholstered sofas and contemporary decorative accents.

Dust regularly using a dry microfibre cloth, avoid excessive moisture, and apply a neutral beeswax periodically to protect the timber surface without dampening its original texture.
