This large late 19th century French farmhouse dining table dates to around 1880 and possesses a rustic style. Constructed from solid oak with a warm brown colour, it features a plank top with rounded corners, supported by square tapered legs and an apron frame. The timber displays a natural wood grain and visible joint lines across the wide surface. Measuring 286 cm long, 98 cm wide, and 77 cm high, with 62 cm under the rail, the piece comfortably seats eight to ten people. In a home today, it functions as a central dining table in a kitchen or dining room for family meals and gatherings.

Farmhouse tables from this era were constructed as functional dining surfaces for rural households, designed for durability with solid oak construction, simple aprons, and sturdy leg profiles.

They were crafted using thick solid oak planks joined to an apron frame, frequently featuring mortise and tenon joinery secured with wooden dowels to accommodate natural timber expansion.

Look for signs of genuine age including natural wear patterns along the table edges, slight shrinkage lines across the plank top, hand-cut joinery, and patination on the timber underside.

Pair the warm timber tones with contemporary upholstered dining chairs or minimalist metal seating to create a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Apply a high-quality beeswax polish periodically along the grain, wipe spills immediately with a damp cloth, and keep the piece away from direct heat sources to prevent timber movement.
