FAQs

Louis XV style tables are recognised by their asymmetrical curves, serpentine contours, cabriole legs, and expressive ornamental mounts. Originating in 18th-century France, the style emphasizes fluid lines and decorative veneers, often topped with custom-shaped marble.

These tables typically feature solid hardwood frames wrapped in fine exotic veneers such as kingwood, rosewood, or tulipwood. They are fitted with cast bronze mounts (ormolu) that are chased and gilded, and topped with polished natural marble slabs.

Authentic period ormolu mounts display fine hand-chasing detail, heavy bronze casting, and hand-threaded iron screws on the reverse. Later late-19th-century or 20th-century reproductions often feature lighter brass castings, less precise surface work, and modern uniform screw threads.

A French marble-topped table works well as an accent piece alongside contemporary soft seating, bridging traditional and modern aesthetics. Place it beside an armchair with a tailored lamp or understated ceramics to highlight the contrast between elaborate historical detail and clean modern lines.

Dust marble regularly with a soft cloth and clean spills immediately using pH-neutral soap and warm water, avoiding acidic substances. Ormolu mounts should be gently dusted with a soft brush and never polished with abrasive chemical cleaners, which strip the delicate gilded layer.
