FAQs

Originating in Kashmir during the 15th century and flourishing through the 19th century, Kashmiri lacquerware involves crafting papier-mache or wooden objects decorated with fine floral and geometric hand-painted patterns sealed under lacquer.

These items are traditionally constructed using layers of paper pulp mixed with adhesive, which are moulded, dried, sanded smooth, and coated with mineral pigments and protective natural varnish.

Authentic 19th-century pieces display dense, finely detailed brushworkoften depicting traditional floral or shawl pattern stripeswith age-related craquelure present in the lacquered finish.

Position the bowl as a decorative accent on a coffee table, console, or sideboard, where its metallic details and dark tones contrast against lighter, modern surfaces.

Dust the surface gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and keep the item away from direct sunlight, high humidity, and liquid contact to protect the organic lacquer and pulp layers.
