Lee Sherman Antiques has dated these German Porcelain Shepherd Figures to the 1900s.
A charming and beautifully detailed pair of antique German porcelain figures depicting a Shepherd and Shepherdess, produced by the renowned Rauenstein Porcelain Factory of Thuringia, Germany, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century.

Modelled in the romantic Rococo Revival style, this delightful pastoral couple displays the fine craftsmanship, delicate colouring and decorative appeal associated with quality German porcelain of the period.
She holds a shepherd's crook, with a charming little lamb resting at her feet.

Her companion, the Shepherd, is equally well modelled, wearing a rich dark blue coat, striped breeches and wide-brimmed black hat. He carries a walking staff and holds open a feeding bag, completing this appealing rural scene.

Both figures stand upon decorative circular bases embellished with delicate applied porcelain flowers and finely gilded Greek key borders, adding a further touch of refinement.
The undersides bear the underglaze blue 'R' factory mark associated with Rauenstein, together with impressed or incised model numbers.

A particularly attractive and decorative pair of antique Continental porcelain figurines, ideal for display in a cabinet, on a mantelpiece or as part of a collection of German porcelain, Dresden-style figures or Victorian decorative ceramics.
A delightful matched pair with wonderful period charm, intricate detailing and timeless decorative appeal.
