Ball-and-claw feet: crisply carved in the interwar English revival style.
Piecrust rim moulding: standard 1930s interpretation of eighteenth-century salver edges.

This low mahogany coffee table belongs to the Chippendale style and dates from 1930. The timber exhibits a warm brown colour with a repolished finish. The circular top has a shaped piecrust rim and a reeded edge. The table stands on four cabriole legs decorated with shell carved knees and terminating in claw and ball feet. It is in good condition. Measuring 47 cm high, 58 cm wide, and 59.5 cm deep, this low occasional piece functions well at the end of a sofa in a living room, drawing room, or country house library. It provides a stable surface for lamps, books, or drinks while introducing traditional English craftsmanship to a domestic interior.

Chippendale style low tables feature design elements popularized in mid-eighteenth-century England, including cabriole legs, claw and ball feet, shell motif carvings, and raised piecrust or scalloped rims on the tabletop.

These tables were predominantly crafted from dense Cuban or West Indian mahogany, chosen for its tight grain structure, dark natural timber hue, and durability during intricate carving processes.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved detailing with subtle variations, natural shrinkage marks along timber joins, period-correct iron fasteners or wooden pegs, and hand-cut dovetail joints on structural frames.

Place the table centrally within a seating group or alongside an armchair to anchor the space, pairing dark timber tones with neutral linen upholstery, ceramics, or contemporary artwork.

Dust regularly using a soft microfiber cloth along carved recesses, apply a beeswax polish annually to protect the patination, and position the furniture away from direct sunlight and radiators to avoid timber warping.
