FAQs

Treen refers to small handmade wooden household objects. A treen wine coaster is a turned or carved wooden stand designed to protect polished dining tables from wine bottles and decanters during meal service.

Traditional wine coasters were typically turned from dense hardwoods such as mahogany or fruitwood, featuring gadrooned or lobed borders, recessed bases, and often leather or felt linings underneath to allow smooth movement across polished surfaces.

Authentic period treen pieces demonstrate natural timber shrinkage, deep patination within hand-carved recessed areas, precise turning marks, and historical wear consistent with centuries of table use.

A treen wine coaster can function on a dining table or sideboard to hold a decanter, or be repurposed on a desk or dressing table as a tray for smaller everyday objects.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish sparingly to maintain the timber finish, avoiding liquid contact and harsh chemical cleaners.
