This Regency library table in mahogany with a tan leather top dates from around 1820. The piece is constructed from mahogany, leather, and brass, and displays a warm brown polished finish. The rectangular top incorporates a brown leather writing surface framed by a moulded mahogany edge, while the frieze below contains functional drawers. The substantial frame rests on heavy turned column supports fitted with brass castors at the feet. Practical dimensions are 76 cm high, 117 cm wide, and 64.5 cm deep. Suitable for placement as a central writing desk or a console table in a study, library, or living room, the table provides both a work surface and useful storage. The proportions suit various domestic interiors while retaining a grand Regency character. The polished timber surfaces, visible grain patterns, and patinated leather surface demonstrate the age and working history of the early nineteenth-century furniture piece.

A Regency library table typically dates from the early 19th century, circa 1810 to 1830, and is characterised by refined classical proportions, rich dark woods such as mahogany, and frequently includes a leather writing surface supported by stout turned legs or pedestal ends.

These tables were constructed using fine flame mahogany or rosewood veneers over solid oak and pine frameworks, finished with gold-tooled leather writing surfaces and cast brass hardware or castors.

Authentic Regency examples display hand-dovetailed drawer joints, hand-planed secondary timbers, original brass castors, and natural wear to the leather inset and polished surfaces consistent with two centuries of use.

A Regency library table functions exceptionally well as a standalone executive desk in a home study, a grand console table placed behind a sofa, or a focal piece in a wide entrance hall.

Maintain the polished finish by dusting with a dry microfiber cloth and applying beeswax annually, while keeping the leather top hydrated with specialist leather conditioner and away from direct heat sources.
