Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This is a boxed set of wooden samples originating from the early 1930s interwar period, designed in a gentleman's library style. The object consists of a rectangular fitted wooden box made from warm brown mahogany, paired with mixed wood samples and paper labels. The interior lid is stamped with black typography detailing the maker, Lister & Co, timber merchants and general woodworkers of East Greenwich, London. The open box contains over forty rectangular timber slats, each individually labelled with printed paper strips naming different wood species such as gaboon ebony, rosewood, and mahogany. The box displays a smooth polished wooden finish with visible grain patterns and crisp stamped text showing minor fading from age. Measuring approximately 30 cm by 10 cm, this compact presentation box fits neatly on an office desk or library table. It functions today as a decorative desktop accessory or a practical reference tool for identifying historic timber types within a study or workspace interior.

FAQs

Timber sample sets were reference tools created by wood merchants and forestry departments during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries to showcase various wood species to architects, craftsmen, and commercial buyers.

These collections typically consist of solid hardwood and softwood slats cut to uniform sizes, complete with paper or metal labels detailing species names, housed inside a fitted timber case.

Authentic 1930s sets display period typography, maker stamps, age-appropriate surface oxidation, and historic botanical or commercial species names pasted onto individual wood blocks.

Display the open timber box on an office desk, coffee table, or bookshelf to act as a tactile conversation piece alongside brass desk accessories and leather-bound books.

Maintain the set in a dry climate away from direct sunlight, dusting gently with a soft dry brush to prevent damage to the historic paper labels.
