Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 19TH CENTURY:
Printed blue crown and banner mark on the base: fixes production from 1815.
Hand-painted iron-red enamel over blue transfer: classic Regency Japan pattern palette.
Moulded blue kylin finial on the cover: sauce tureen design of the 1820s.
Soft rubbing on the unglazed foot rim: honest shelf wear from long domestic use.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This early 19th-century English Georgian tureen and cover is shaped in an octagonal form from ironstone earthenware. The piece displays a glossy white glaze hand-painted in a cobalt blue and orange Imari floral pattern, with twin curved handles and a blue kylin finial surmounting the lid. Measuring 15 cm high, 22 cm wide, and 17 cm deep, the small vessel sits upon a shaped pedestal foot. In a contemporary home, this colourful tureen serves as a decorative display piece on a sideboard top, bringing traditional English country house character to a dining room or living space. Collectors place such porcelain on display cabinets or mantelpieces to showcase period decorative items.

Patented by Charles James Mason in Staffordshire in 1813, Ironstone china is a durable type of vitreous earthenware developed to compete with imported Chinese porcelain during the Georgian period.

Georgian ironstone was manufactured using a mix of china clay, quartz, feldspar, and ironstone slag, fired at high temperatures to produce a dense, opaque body highly resistant to chipping.

Authentic early pieces often display transfer-printed outlines filled with hand-painted enamel colours in traditional Imari palettes, alongside printed factory marks such as Masons Patent Ironstone China on the base.

Position the tureen as a central decorative vessel on a dining table, sideboard, or displayed within a glass-fronted cabinet to introduce historic pattern and warm tone to a contemporary interior.

Clean the piece by hand using warm water and a mild dishwashing detergent, avoiding abrasive pads, chemical solvents, or mechanical dishwashers that may damage overglaze enamel decoration.
