This nineteenth-century Scottish Victorian cotton reel stand is an unusual sewing accessory constructed in staved wood with a warm brown colour and a natural polished finish. The tiered circular platforms are supported by a turned central baluster and raised on small bun feet, while the top tier holds six turned finials and vertical metal spindles. Four of the spindles currently hold spools of thread in black, pink, green, and white. Signs of age include minor surface wear and natural grain variations across the wood. The practical tabletop piece measures 31cm in height and 16cm in width. In a modern interior, this functional collectible works well displayed on a bookshelf, side table, or dressing table. It suits an English Country House style and provides compact storage for sewing supplies or small decorative items in a study, bedroom, or living room.

A cotton reel stand is a Victorian haberdashery device designed to hold multiple spools of sewing thread on vertical spindles, often featuring a revolving tiered design made from turned wood.

These items were typically crafted from turned hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or fruitwood, incorporating metal or wooden spindles and occasionally turned wooden finials.

Authentic pieces demonstrate hand-turned central columns, original surface patina, period-appropriate spindle fixings, and construction details consistent with 19th-century Scottish treen manufacture.

A cotton reel stand functions as a desktop organiser, a display piece on a bookshelf, or a decorative storage solution for craft rooms and haberdashery collections.

Dust the wood regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply natural beeswax sparingly to preserve the original finish, keeping the item away from direct sunlight and damp environments.
