Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE REGENCY ERA:

This small William IV wine table, dating from the Regency period, serves well as an occasional table or a lamp table in a living room, hallway, or at the end of a sofa. The piece is constructed from mahogany and features a warm brown colour with a flame mahogany veneer on its octagonal top, which has canted corners. A faceted shaft rises from a quadform plinth base supported by four small turned compressed bun feet. Visible details include distinct timber grain variations across the surface, clean joint lines, and a smooth polished finish with subtle signs of age and wear. The table stands 76 cm high, 51 cm wide, and 33 cm deep, offering a practical surface for everyday household use in a traditional or period interior.

William IV period furniture, produced between approximately 1830 and 1837, bridges the Regency and early Victorian eras. The design language is characterised by substantial proportions, classical carved details, smooth curves, and prominent architectural forms.

These tables were typically built using high-density hardwoods such as Cuban or West Indian mahogany and rosewood. Decorative top surfaces frequently feature book-matched flame veneers attached to solid timber bases.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut joinery, period-correct weight from dense timber, hand-carved pedestal details, and natural patination beneath the top surface. Construction often features solid quadform or tripod plinth bases.

A compact wine table functions effectively as an occasional side table beside a sofa or armchair, a plant pedestal, or a functional accent in an entry hall or library reading corner.

Dust surfaces regularly using a clean, dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish annually to maintain the timber. Position the item away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and movement.
