This 19th-century William IV occasional table is constructed from solid mahogany with a warm brown colour and brass hardware. The square top features a reeded edge and sits above two end drawers fitted with round turned wooden pulls, ebony key escutcheons, and working locks with keys dangling from the front. Below the frieze, a heavy turned and fluted central column rests upon a gadrooned collar and a quadripartite platform base finished with scroll feet on concealed brass castors. Measuring 78 cm high, 78.5 cm wide, and 53.5 cm deep, the table stands in very good condition with visible figuring across the timber surfaces. In a contemporary home, this piece suits placement as an occasional table at the end of a sofa or beside an armchair in a living room, study, or library. The drawers offer practical storage for small everyday items, while the compact footprint makes it adaptable for placement in various seating arrangements. The traditional English country house style blends easily with both period and modern interior schemes, providing a sturdy surface for lamps, books, or decorative accessories.

Produced between 1830 and 1837, William IV furniture represents a transitional style bridging Regency elegance and Victorian solidity. Key attributes include bold proportions, turned or reeded pedestal supports, gadrooned details, and rich hardwoods such as mahogany and rosewood.

Tables from this period were predominantly constructed from solid or veneered Cuban and West Indian mahogany. Drawer construction typically features hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine drawer linings, and turned timber knobs or brass pull handles.

Authentic pieces display heavy hand-carved details, such as lotus leaf or reeded columns, resting on a sturdy quadripartite base with concave sides. Look for hand-sawn timber marks, original brass castors, and period locks on drawer fronts.

Position the table beside a contemporary sofa or armchairs to serve as a functional side table. The dark mahogany timber provides visual weight and warmth when contrasted against neutral walls and modern upholstered furniture.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth, wiping in the direction of the wood grain. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber, avoiding silicone-based sprays and direct heat sources.
